WOAH there April and your storms! Despite all that stormy rambunctiousness, we had some great accomplishments!

Here's a snapshot of our April happenings:

PLACEMENTS:

Down one team lead, we still had an amazing month, and thank you Katy for jumping in and rolling with it. We had 183 intakes and 76 transfers to new fosters, for a total of 259 placements (excluding sitters and sleepovers). Notable placements include Chopper, Whiskey, Bebop, Kit, and Sebastian!

ADOPTIONS:

We had 162 adoptions! Notably, the following dogs found their fureverhomes: Lindsay, Marylou, Tony, Rambo, Esmeralda, Asher, Macy, Aretha Franklin, Ben (444 net days), James (533 net days), Faraon (827 net days), and Spanky (1143 net days)!!

STAFF WELCOMES & NEWS:

  • Goodbye to Kay, our Dog Foster Records Coordinator!

VOLUNTEER WELCOMES & NEWS:

  • Welcome to Amanda DiGangi as a New Dog Foster Adoption Coordinator!

SHOUT OUTS:

  • Shout out to Kay! For more than 2 years Kay has been the rock behind keeping our records straight and organized, making sure that PASS and returned dogs coming into the program have everything they need to move on to their furever home, tracking foster and adoption application data, and managing our thousands-strong google group, among other things. Kay's been super dedicated, reliable, and an unsung hero, and we're going to miss her a lot.

HIGHLIGHTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND INITIATIVES:

  • We experienced an actual flood of bottle babies. Since January 2018, we’ve not experienced more than 13 Austin Animal Center bottle babies in one month, and the average was 6. In April, we intaked 34 bottle babies from Austin Animal Center ALONE! Thank you to our new Dog Foster Placement Team Lead, Katy, for spearheading the effort, to all our neonatal fosters who stepped up to take this precious and vulnerable beings, and to all our Dog Foster Team personnel who turned their jobs into 24/7 positions and took them home.

  • Due to changes in our agreement with the city, we are no longer able to house animals from outside of Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties at TLAC. Lead by the amazing efforts of our Dog Foster Advocate, Audrey, we moved tons of out of area dogs into foster homes from the shelter.

GOAL FOR MAY 2019!

  • No more floods - the rain or the puppy kind! In all seriousness though, we’re trying to move as many dogs out of the shelter today as possible as it’s forecasted to rain for the next couple of days. So please consider taking home a foster dog today and/or promoting the effort on your social media!

Onward and upward!
