Month in Review: March 2019

In like a lion, and also out like a lion.

Here's a snapshot of our March happenings:

PLACEMENTS:

March was our best month yet! We had 246 intakes and 49 transfers to new fosters, for a total of 295 placements (excluding sitters and sleepovers). Notable placements include Josie and long stays Ravenclaw and Twister!!

ADOPTIONS:

A stellar month - just 6 short of our best. We had 185 adoptions. Notably, the following dogs found their fureverhomes: Julia, Melinda, Ruby Woo, almost long stay Charlie Brown, and long stays: Bristol (302 net days), Monroe (388 net days), Razzy Tazzy (389 net days), Jamie (415 net days), Celina (796 net days). Many of these were medical cases, alongside these other amazing medical dog adoptions: Mave, Miss Wembly, Layla Hathaway, and Tamarindo!

STAFF WELCOMES & NEWS:

  • Welcome to Audrey McFadden, our new Dog Foster Advocate!

  • Welcome to Katy Collins, our new Dog Foster Placement Team Lead!

VOLUNTEER WELCOMES & NEWS:

  • Welcome to Angel H., our new Dog Foster Placement Marketing Lead!

SHOUT OUTS:

  • Shout out to Regan Goins, our Dog Foster Program Assistant Manager and Maddie’s Fund Dog Foster Program Advisor, who was the driving force behind March’s cold weather push (and numerous other program initiatives, with some exciting ones in the works). Because of Regan’s initiative 88 dogs came in out from the cold. Regan’s got an admirable amount of steel will, stamina, and encyclopedic knowledge of our dog population, and countless dogs have benefitted from Regan being on our team!

  • Shout out to foster Karen P. for getting Harmony's 9 puppies all adopted out in one weekend!

  • Our volunteers during this National Volunteer Appreciation Week. You are all incredible people for donating your time to make this program run.

HIGHLIGHTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND INITIATIVES:

  • We had a major cold weather push in the beginning of March, which resulted in 88 shelter dogs going on emergency sleepovers. As a result of this:

  • 20 of these 88 sleepovers were converted into foster stays.

  • 13 of these 88 dogs were adopted from foster.

  • We added 191 new foster parents in March, many of whom were responding to the cold weather call to action.

  • Our sleepover numbers really skyrocketed this month, up 68% from last month. These include safety sleepovers, home note sleepovers, and emergency sleepovers.

  • We found out that Jake Ryan doesn't have separation anxiety from his short term foster.

  • We found out that Desmond can do small dogs in his short term foster!

  • Medical dog placements are up 8% from last month, which is the second consecutive month of growth in medical dog placements.

  • Behavior placements stayed around the same as last month, which is still 40% higher than both December and January.

GOAL FOR APRIL 2019!
