Month in Review: October 2018!

Hello Wonderful Fosters!

WOAH! What a difference a month makes. October came in like a sweet senior wanting to chill by your side and out like a three-month old puppy - nonstop. Here's a snapshot of our October happenings:

PLACEMENTS:

We had 321 intakes and 57 transfers to new fosters, for a total of 378 placements. THIS IS OUR BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR BY 29! Congratulations to the Dog Foster Placement Team and all who assisted with this monstrous efforts. Notable placements include: Spoodoo, 38 mom and pups, lots of Distemper placements, and who can forget: the flood placements! Pictured is sweet Spoodoo relaxing and thriving in his foster home.

ADOPTIONS:

We had 190 adoptions. An awesome increase of 42 adoptions over last month! Notably, the following dogs found their fureverhomes: Sophie, Scrappy, Karl, Prima, Lois Lane, and long stays: Granny (430 net days), Juice (479 net days), and Elvis (559 net days). Pictured are Granny, Juice, and Elvis.

STAFF WELCOMES & NEWS:

  • Welcome to Shelby Asquith as our new Dog Foster Assistant Manager!

  • Shout out to Jess Powers, who helped us in a crunch by taking two puppies to foster late at night when their foster mom had a family emergency!

HIGHLIGHTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND INITIATIVES:

  • FLOOD PLACEMENTS!

  • We placed 143 dogs in 6 days, 33 of whom have already been adopted. More than half (72) are staying in foster until adoption! That’s an incredible accomplishment y’all.

  • We added 552 foster families (monthly average was 122)!

  • Ridiculously crazy shout out to the Dog Foster Onboarding Team Leads, Ian Bingham and Fiona Cheung, for their work on processing foster applications and everyone who helped with this amazing flood placement effort.

  • We started the 200 Days in Shelter Club on Trello, specifically highlighting these pups so we can get them into homes before they become long stays.

  • We cleared out the Parvo Ward of Parvo negatives and started pleaing dogs that will test negative in the near future to get a jump on placing those.

  • AAC Push: Led by Regan and Jamison, who staffed at Austin Animal Center (and continued to do so this weekend), we are providing significant help to AAC to help them move their population to foster homes in order to help control and reduce disease.

GOAL FOR NOVEMBER:

We need more volunteers! With so many dogs added to foster care, our teams are in need. We are specifically looking for the following positions:

  • Dog Foster Placement Coordinator

  • Dog Foster Events Team Co-Lead

Please help us by spreading the word. If you have any friends or family who are interested in volunteering, please encourage them to reach out about these positions to dog-foster-manager@austinpetsalive.org.

Thank you for all you do!
