Month in Review: August 2018!

Hello Austin!

It's Back to School for some of us and hopefully back to sane weather for all of us! Here's a snapshot of our August happenings:

ADOPTIONS: HUGE month for the Dog Foster Adoption Team! 224 adoptions, which is tied with March for the most in a month this year. Notably, the following dogs found their fureverhomes: Doug, Palomino, Blanche, Biker, Harold, Banner, Randall and long stays Frodo (523 net days), Moose (769 net days), and WAIT FOR IT...GRAPE (416 net days, but has been in our system since 2008 and had been in foster care for 377 days). Also, SUPER long stays Perla (1205 net days) and Tugg (1265 net days) were adopted from TLAC, and greatly benefited from their recent foster stays!

PLACEMENTS: The Dog Foster Placement Team had another great month! We had 220 intakes and 34 transfers to new fosters, for a total of 254 placements. Notable placements include: Juanita, Maverick, Juice, Dave, Rufus, Shatzi, Miguel, Moose, Marilla, and Kit!!

HIGHLIGHTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND INITIATIVES: -Our push during the August 12 flooding was a big success and resulted in a lot of dogs going to foster. -Clear the Shelters! We had one foster dog adoption that day and one foster dog adoption that resulted from it (Dixie). Thank you to all who helped and volunteered! -We’re noticing more people stepping up to take Distemper-labeled dogs, and we’re hoping access to our Distemper Angels mentor group is helping people feel more comfortable fostering this population in need. -Stay tuned for some REALLY exciting, wishing on a star-ry sky news, adoption news next month.

GOAL FOR SEPTEMBER: We STILL need to get Twister into foster care! From his Trello card: "Twister’s skin is in rough shape, again. We have tried a few different things to help him but it looks like getting him out of the shelter environment will be the only cure. Twister has a bunch of exposed sores and some hair loss throughout his body. He is on a prescription food that would be provided.

Twister can be easy to handle with some basic instruction. Can you give this big boy a place to heal?"

Please share Twister far and wide!!
