Month in Review: July 2018!

Hello Wonderful Austin,

Happy Dog Days of Summer! Here's a snapshot of our July happenings:

Adoptions: 188 foster dogs found their furever homes this month!! That's 24 more than June, which is fantastic as we usually experience a summer lull in adoptions. Notably, the following dogs found their fureverhomes: Kizzy, Diva, Luna, senior loves Kringle and Saul, and LONG STAY FAVORITES Lincoln (781 days) and Oscar (1540 days).

Placements: Wowzers! The Dog Foster Placement Team had quite the month with 276 placements. That's our highest total since January. Notable placements include: James, Beryl, Miguel, Vegas, Samuel, and Chewy!!!

Staff Comings & Goings: Heather started as our new Dog Foster Medical Liaison, and she's doing great filling Katharine's big shoes!

Highlights, Announcements, & Initiatives: Almost half of Austin Pets Alive!'s long stay dogs are in foster care. That is a huge population shift for us and a great accomplishment! During the heatwave push, we added as many foster parents in 3 days than we average in a month (approx. 110), and we averaged 13 placements per day when we typically average 7 placements per day. We launched our Dog Foster Resource Website. We created two instagram pages: https://www.instagram.com/apafosterdogneeds/ and https://www.instagram.com/apafosterdogaoptions/ Please like and share! These mirror our two Facebook pages. We are now bringing some foster dogs to stay at TLAC for the weekend. The foster dogs we are targeting for this are those that would not do well at adoption sites/events and need the additional exposure. Thrift: We're working closely with both thrift stores on foster recruitment and exposure & adoption events, like the monthly senior dogs. The Dog Foster Adoption Advocate and the Dog Foster Events Team is working hard to streamline the adoption site/event invitation process.

Goal for August: Rolling out a special (currently secret) mentor initiative and make it as robust as possible AND getting Twister into foster care! From his Trello card: "Twister’s skin is in rough shape, again. We have tried a few different things to help him but it looks like getting him out of the shelter environment will be the only cure. Twister has a bunch of exposed sores and some hair loss throughout his body. He is on a prescription food that would be provided. Twister can be easy to handle with some basic instruction."

Please share Twister far and wide!!
