Month in Review: June 2018!

Here's a snapshot of the June happenings for APA!'s Dog Foster Team!

Adoptions: 163 foster dogs found their furever homes this month!! While this is a slight dip from our yearly average of 205 foster pups adopted/month, it's to be expected given the arrival of summer. We also finished the month strong, which bodes well for our July numbers. Notably, the following dogs found their furever homes: Jordan, Tyra, Peggy Sue and...drumroll please for our adoptions of the month: Snowman (an emaciated pup that came to us in January) and Shamrock (foster win; previously the longest stay dog of all dogs)!

Placements: We came roaring back from the April lull with 223 dogs placed in foster. Notably, the following dogs found foster homes: Biker (paralyzed in his back legs, with a wonderful foster who took great care of him, and is now with a new foster) and Marilla (sweet, long stay behavior pup who's been with us for 844 days). And on our last day in June, we placed Junebug (long stay, behavior pup with a medical disease requiring chemotherapy) and Edison (wheelchair and behavior pup)!

Staff Comings & Goings: Amanda started as our Dog Foster Placement Team Assistant Lead this month, and she's knocking it out of the park! And our fantastic Dog Foster Medical Liaison, Katharine, is leaving us for sunnier pastures at an editing gig with a local newspaper. Katharine made a huge impact during her time with us - producing comprehensive handouts/resources on Distemper, Ringworm, Sarcoptic Mange, and maternity/neonatals for all of APA! to use and significantly improving our communication with and access to the Clinic, among other things. We couldn't be more excited for Katharine, but she's left big shoes to fill, and we'll miss her. We have made a new hire for her position, and we'll make her introduction when she starts on the 6th.

Goal for July: Find Perla a foster home! Perla is another sweet pup that's been with us for 1600 days. Behavior Team reports that she's shown increased anxiety to the point that she's now hurting herself, so we have to do everything we can to help her. Please spread the word and share this far and wide (any inquiries should get directly to foster@austinpetsalive.org)!
